Bethany McKenney was elected to County Council in 2018 by residents of District 7 which includes Barberton, Clinton, New Franklin, Norton and parts of Kenmore.
An award-winning nurse: Bethany McKenney has been a registered nurse in our community for over 20 years. She has served as District Nurse for Manchester Local Schools for over 10 years and counting, and on the Crisis Response Team for area schools as well as on the Summit County Opiate Task Force combatting the opiate epidemic. She has also led as the District Nurse for St. Francis de Sales. Prior to this Bethany served as a Charge Nurse at Barberton Hospital caring for the elderly and at Akron General Medical Center. Graduating from the University of Akron, School of Nursing, Summa Cum Laude, she earned her RN, BSN with honors.
With a big heart for people, Bethany serves on the board of Barberton Area Community Ministries (BACM) which provides food and helps those in need in the 44203 zip code which includes Barberton and Norton. She also volunteers for Mobile Meals at the Kenmore Community Center delivering meals to seniors, disabled and the home-bound in Barberton and New Franklin. Her record of service includes Mission USA Disaster Relief, which responds to local and global disasters such as the Barberton flood of 2013 and Hurricane Katrina; Project Ed Bear which helps children battling cancer and their families and the local Relay for Life. Bethany and her husband Judge Todd McKenney have served with YEPAW for African-American teen leadership where the McKenneys' sponsor the Noah Award, an annual scholarship awarded to a deserving student in honor of their son Noah who lost his life to cancer.
A lifelong Summit County resident, Bethany McKenney grew up working at the family owned small business, Sport Sales, Inc. Bethany has been married for over 20 years to Todd McKenney who is the Judge of the Barberton Municipal Court. They are proud parents of two children, Nathan and Selah. Residing in the city of New Franklin, they are active church members at The Chapel.
